LSG at Lenny's Sub Shop

Lenny's Sub Shop turned out really good. We were very warmly welcomed, the prices were good, and the food was very tasty. I highly recommend the hot pepper relish! Afterwards, we rode to Utica Pike and around Southern Indiana then stopped for Ice Cream at a place I called Tradewinds by Garmin, Chillers on the outside of the shop, and Zesto on the cups and napkins??? Regardless as always it was a good ride with great friends. We even got to visit with Joan and Steph who didn't ride, but hung out with us!

On the way home

I saw this guy with a couple what seemed brand new scooters. The plates said "Jerrys Scooters Corydon, IN". I was thinking how dumb that was...Rick at NuLu sells the same scooters, and he could have RIDDEN home!! I need to remind Rick that his advertisement budget might be suffering a little??

Harley-Vespa

Subliminal message to my amigo Ken: buy this now! Harley was grillin' and offered me a bratwurst. It was good, but they should have had me running the grill: it was raw on the inside. :( Still, nice of them to offer!

Open House ~III: HarleyDavidsonBMWVespa

Vesparley had something I have not yet seen: a Piaggio Beverly 500. Nice looking scoot. They also had a couple BV250's, one MP3-500, and even the Big Boss: Vespa 300ie. That was in red, and would be my bike if I could stand the discomfort of a non-touring scoot. I like upright footing as a choice, not my only choice.

Commonwealth: tempted

If I could be tempted by looks and totally disregard the functionality, comfort, and efficiency of a scooter, I would so ride this Triumph bike...

Open House #2: Commonwealth Motorcycles

Today was centered mainly around their Triumph brand, but I noted they did have a lot of Genuine. No Stellas, but a slew of Buddys (even one Blackjack).

S&S Piaggio MP3

They had one final maxi-scoot, the MP3, so that makes it only 3 maxi-scooters so far. :( Not a great start to the day.

S&S: Lois in pearl white?

I don't care much for white, but it has visibility going, and I bet the seat stays cooler!

S&S - Logan scooter?

Logan likes the look of this little Yamaha. I personally liked the Zumas behind them.

First stop: S & S Powersports Open House

S&S in Brooks, KY had an open house today. They didn't seem to have a whole lot going on that would interest me, so I left a stack of LSG cards and a flyer.

Tuesday night LSG ride

We had more than a couple folks brave the heat for the ride. We grabbed a quick bite here at Wendy's and then swarmed off for the hills south and west of Louisville in and around Jefferson Memorial Forest. Its a great place to ride and we are very fortunate to have it right on the border of city limits which makes it easy to get to.

Scooter Rides, 25 cents!

Ok, it was really not for 25 cents, but Kathy's mom had never ridden
on a motorbike before so I took her for a short spin. She did not
like the helmet but I think she liked the ride.

Mini DV cam

The Mini DV cam I got for the purpose of scooter videos came right AFTER I got back from St. Louis. *grumble* I have only used it once so far and although the aiming is superior to the keychain cam, the shakyness of the video made it unviewable without first taking dramamine. If anybody has an idea how to fix that, I'm wide open.

18K on the Majesty (26K lifetime)

I just realized I need to ride 4000 more miles this year to keep my personal goal of 10K per year.

Effing Lunch in Effingham, IL

They pronounce it evvingham. I suppose that's to keep people from making stupid jokes?

HAMS Rally III

These are the folks that were in town for the third Heart of America Maxi Scooter Rally. There were some pr cool folks here that we rode with. I hope at least a couple look me up on the Louisville Scooter Group or this blog. There were more than a couple I spoke to and many more who I didn't get the chance. From Louisville we had seven people which was a significant showing. Patch (designed by LSG member "Blackburg") will be affixed to my vest next week! :D Now its time to head for home, and cross over the 2nd river on the one lane wooden Wabash Cannonball Bridge. The county sheriff department assures me its still open and functional.

The Gateway Arch

Got to the Arch!

The Bud Tour!

Done! Loved the three beers I sampled but found out 2 are not available in Louisville. :(

A-B tour

We made it back just in time to take the Anheuser-Busch tour! Not a huge fan, but this is my first brewery & didnt seem right to come to St. louis without seeing it.

2nd stop

We are at the second stop of the day.

Sandy Creek

Bikes!

Seems like the Suzuki's are most common.

The covered bridge

Our first stop is at one of the two covered bridges in Missouri.

A HAMS breakfast

Gooey something that taste like chess pie.

Crossing the Mississippi....the state of Missouri

Crossing the bridge...

The great Mississippi River...my first time across. Now I can say I have been west of the Mississippi.
The "Welcome To".
Are these "amber waves of grain"?

Illinois

Got the "Welcome To" sign...and a couple others! This is one of the things I came "all this way" for. I know Illinois is practically neighbors, but I had never had the opportunity to get here on the scoot.

They were putting up a new Welcome To Mount Carmel sign when we rode thru.

Here is Kat at an old rusted oil rig.

Here is a "Historical Marker"

Here is the Pinckneyville Penitentiary they kicked us out of.
Apparently Popeye lived in Chester, IL.

Getting ready to cross the Mississippi into Missouri. It seems like we jus

We are in missouri

Just a little rain.

Pegs good. Prison bad.

We stopped quickly for lunch at Subway in Pinckneyville, IL and the pegs are doing great. This is after they kicked us out to the penitentiary for taking pictures...

Eat fresh!

Stopping for a quick lunch! Pickneyville, IL.

Leavenworth, Indiana

First gas stop is early because I waited until we got out of the Louisville area to fuel up. I got 55mpg this last tank. I can live with anything above 50. That puts me at a 160 mile range. ETA to St. Louis is like 1:30pm. No rain yet. *crosses fingers*

Old rusty oil rig

Screw BP! We have/had oil in Illinios!

Flat black

Flat black beats chrome every time. :)

Stoppers

Here you can see the rubber stoppers that help support the main strut. Kat figured out that part!

Side view of the pegs

Highway footpegs done!

Thanks to Vince who came over to help me attach them! He rocks!

Check from Javier

I got the check from Javier, aka the dude on a pink Stella that hit me at WKRP. I deposited it, so I hope its good. I haven't had time to order my parts yet, but that will be soon!

HAMS rally prep almost done

The Heart of America Maxi Scooter rally starts tomorrow.  Several folks from LSG and Louisville are going today and tomorrow, but Kat and I aren't riding up until Friday.

I am getting a little antsy to get the foot pegs mounted on Lois.  I want to see if and how they work.  I'd like to do that tonight but laundry duty and other stuff calls so it will probably be last minute on Thursday.  Great, no ride beforehand to see if it's going to hold.  :(

HAMS is in St. Louis and if you have time you should drop in and attend the festivities.  They have things going on Thursday for people who are already in St. Louis.  They have a Friday morning ride (again--I guess mostly for those people who live there or can take extra time off), and a meet and greet on Friday night with a pizza party (which may or may not be included in your rally fee).  There is also a night ride afterwards.  Saturday is a ride out into Mark Twain National Forest and lunch in Bixby (which I don't believe is included in your rally fee).  There was supposed to be supper and gambling at the casino Saturday night but that has been cancelled so I might just try to catch a movie or swim at the pool if nothing else is going on.  I think they still have a supper planned, but it is informal and also not included in the rally fee.  On Sunday morning they have breakfast and a ride but it goes West and Kat and I have to travel East.  We are the only ones I know of from Louisville who are riding to and from so we'll have to leave pretty early in order to make sure we have time for the stops and stuff we want to see on the way back.

I will give a report of the event here next week.  I am very curious of what the turn out will be like and how it's all planned and organized.  It seems very laid back compared to WKRP and Gasoline Rally.  I think the big difference is those were sponsored events and HAMS (I don't think) is.  I have not had a lot of time to peruse the St. Louis Scooter Club site, but I have not seen or heard where HAMS is associated with any retail entities such as scooter shops, clubs or bars, but this is only the third year, and they don't have the draw of the Indy500 track to bring in a huge crowd of people.  Still, if I was expecting people from over one thousand miles away (some are coming from Arizona and Canada!) then I would at the very least offer some Saturday night entertainment and a couple meals.  WKRP had that kind of stuff going on and this year was the first year they even charged anything.  No matter...I have a great route planned there and back with some scenic goodies built in.  Regardless, I am positive everyone will have a great time.  I know Kat and I will!
